Camping & Where to Stay

Our Sussex site offers overnight camping on the land within the farm and by the woods. It’s the perfect way to allow the power of the night before not to be blasted away by a direct return to indoor living.

IMPORTANT INFO

How to book

If your event tickets have been purchased already, you can still book camping by heading to the ticket page and selecting your event. Click “Buy tickets & camping” and add accommodation to your basket.

Breakfast is included in all camping add-ons.

Check-in/Check-out

Please aim to arrive for 5:30 pm and no later than 6 pm, giving yourself a good hour to set up camp and make it to the fireside in time. There will be no further opportunities to set up your tent until after the event without missing part of the evening's event.

We ask that all campers vacate the camping field by 11 am. Cars can remain for longer in the parking if you would like to walk the woods and area.

Campers are welcome to walk the woods and land the next morning. The SWN team ask politely that with the intensity of events and the number of people visiting our team needs people-free space where we host the events in the woods. This is also where we live and rest between shows. The team would be grateful for uninterrupted time between shows to clear up from the previous night and prepare for the next show. If you are an early arrival before registration or late departing can you please keep a respectful distance from the SWN firesite area on your wanderings.

LUXURY BELL TENTS

Want to treat yourself and have all the thrills of sleeping close to nature but in a double bed and no set-up hassles? Then this is the ticket, but we only have four tents onsite so book fast to avoid camping instead. Each tent comes with a double bed complete with bedding for two people, seats, furniture and lighting.

Hire options are for two, three or four campers in the tent. For the 3rd and 4th tent users, all sleeping kit (bedding, mattress and pillows) must be self-supplied - they are not included. Breakfast is included for each camper. When purchasing please select the option for how many campers are in your tent on the ticket page. This can be increased later on if you are not sure at the time of booking. Please note you must have a ticket to Singing With Nightingales to hire the tents but the SWN ticket is not included in the hire price.

DIY Camping

Got your own tent, sleeping bag and camping mat? Then this is the best option if you are fine to arrive in time to set it up and have all the necessary equipment. Please note, however, that you have to bring all your own kit for this option. Add-ons are per person, not per pitch. Breakfast is included. SWN doesn't provide any extra camping equipment but in case of emergencies do ask the team as sometimes spare kit is available.

CAMPERVANS

This add-on is per person, not per vehicle. You must provide your own campervan (yes, people have turned up expecting us to have them ready for them). Please note: if you buy this 'Campervan' camping ticket you do NOT need to buy a Car Parking Pass. Maximum campervan length: 6 metres. Depending on weather conditions and wetness in the field we may have to relocate the campervans to hard standing elsewhere in the farmyard.

THE BULL PEN

The Sussex farm has newly made available a delightful accommodation set up on-site offering a self-catered residential apartment with two double beds.

WHAT IS THE CAMPERS’ BREAKFAST?

This is a simple but delicious self-service affair of our long-perfected Bircher Muesli or ‘overnight oats’. Our recipe is simple and includes organic oats mixed with desiccated coconut, raisins, and cinnamon and soaked overnight in oat milk ready for whoever wakes first. Facilities to boil water are provided on a gas ring and fresh ground coffee and tea is available. We encourage guests to see what herbs are growing that also make great tea substitutes (nettles and goosegrass are easily findable onsite). Breakfast is available in the camping area until 10 am. Please note the dish-washing system to save our team the cemented muesli ordeal after checkout (thanks!).

TOILETS

We have two compost loos available for campers. These use sawdust sprinkled after no. twos. Compost loos are sit-down experiences only (men, absolutely no standing to pee inside please - you have any bush you like for that pleasure!). Only organic human substances and sawdust are to be placed down the compost loo, all other materials are to be placed in the sanitary bins, please.

SHOWERS

The SWN team are working on building some forest shower facilities. Watch this space to find out more about when these will be available!

OTHER THINGS TO DO

There is terrific walking to be had and lots of lovely places to visit in the area. If you are keen to stay on longer we do allow campers to extend their stay beyond or before their SWN experience. There is also the splendid Secret Campsite that offers some extraordinary camping, treehouse and cabin options on the other side of the woods from the farm.

GLOUCESTERSHIRE ACCOMMODATION

RSPB Highnam Woods has no camping allowed as it is a wildlife and nature reserve. However, next to the land is the charming Pinetum Lodge which has many types of accommodation and may permit camping in their garden. Get in touch to see what is available.
