Work with Us

The SWN vision is to work with a diverse community of people wanting to make a difference. (Please read our Vision page for more info) but we need you to help build a more just, nature-enriched and enchanted world that puts nature first. See below the many ways we would love to have you as part of the ongoing life of this project.

After the outing, I now see nature as willing to embrace everybody who wants to enter, even people like me who can’t tell the difference between hiking and winter boots."

Partnerships

SWN believes strongly in the importance of partnership work, especially if it involves working with nature-orientated organisations that hold social justice, diversity, accessibility and equality at the heart of their principles. We would love to discuss how you and your community might like to collaborate and benefit from the work we do and how SWN can support you and your organisation. Please visit the contact page to write to us with your enquiry.

Over our 9 years of hosting events, we have worked with many organisations such as the RSPB, English Heritage, Southbank Centre, Aviva, Vivo Barefoot, Enjoolata Foundation and The Hummingbird Project, White Cube Gallery, Climate Reframe, Emergence Magazine, Knepp Rewilding Estate, Wildlife Trust, Ashden Climate Solutions to mention but a few.

Volunteering

In 2024 we are pleased to offer several volunteer roles to help create our woodland community and live with our team over the spring series. We are looking for able-bodied people who can handle late nights and early dawn choruses, and enjoy living and working around the fire in all conditions. Volunteering duties are mostly focused on the evening events so the days are free for you to really sink into the forest life and dose up on nature. All your meals are covered and many other perks exist too but we will be pleased to have you as part of the SWN family. Please see this page for more information and details on how to apply.

joining the SWN Staff team

Think you’ve got what it takes to live outside over the spring and be part of our hard-working team that delivers SWN? There are a few opportunities for team members who fit our weather-sturdy, mud-proof, people-charming and nature-oriented criteria. Do get in touch if you are interested!

New SWN Sites

As our venture grows we are always looking for new sites to deliver Nightingale experiences both in other regions of the UK and abroad. If you are aware of places that have birds singing please do let us know. To help calibrate whether a site is suitable for this sort of experience your insight into a few important things would be very helpful. If you have somewhere in mind please could you let us know, where possible, the following information:

  • What is the exact location of this site? (Google Map pins are very helpful here)

  • Is this an ecologically sensitive or protected site?

  • Who is the landowner and do you have their contact details?

  • Is there public transport nearby?

  • Is there parking available?

  • Does it have a mains water source?

  • Is it already close to one of our other current sites?

  • How many birds have been heard in this location and (without sounding patronising) are you 100% sure they are Nightingales?

All this will help us build up a picture of where the birds exist, useful knowledge to have for both us and also for wider understanding and appreciation of this species.

Ambassadors

SWN at its heart is a proof of concept that real human and nature kinship is not only possible but necessary. SWN is currently recruiting ambassadors to help support our unique narrative and campaign to depict a more nature and culturally rich world. We believe the SWN experience can be transformative in awareness-raising of our ecological crisis and initiating people on their journey towards a more ecologically enriched life. Our ambition is to promote this work within the nature and conservation sector, the music industry, the wider arts and indeed the political, policy writing and governmental arena. We believe that people who have the power to make a difference in their sector should experience this event and we are developing a model where we can make space for changemakers alongside the communities we also feel need and deserve this space. We welcome those of you who can take the ripples SWN creates and communicate it beyond our longest branch. Would you like to be part of this enchanted journey we are creating and can you help be a supportive conduit, advisor, and influence to our campaign? If so please get in touch.
